Is Nova Scotia shellfish giant Fisher King Seafoods for sale? The CEO will only say that the company is “open to opportunities”

LOWER SACKVILLE, NS — Fisher King Seafoods launches its line in the water.

The headline of an industry website on Jan. 31 said a $500 million Canadian shellfish supplier was selling.

This description fits Fisher King, but CEO Tor Conklin doesn’t speak.

Conklin declined an interview request when he was hired by SaltWire, opting instead to release a sparse statement via email.

“Thank you for your interest in Fisher King Seafoods. Although we are unable to comment on the specific details of your request, we can certainly confirm that we are always open to opportunities to continue growing the business while contributing locally to the New Brunswick seafood industry. Scotland,” Conklin wrote.

Fisher King Seafoods was founded in Halifax in 1996 and operates out of Lower Sackville.



Conklin has been CEO since 2015.

The company sources seafood not only in Atlantic Canada, but around the world. Through partnerships with Polar Seafoods of Greenland and food broker Nichirei Corp of Japan, Fisher King is able to supply its markets not only with lobster tails and crab from Atlantic Canada, but also with shrimp, octopus, albacore and clams all year round.

The company currently has 30 employees and annual sales of more than $640 million (CDN), Conklin said in his email.
