This year, Expo West proved that plant-based products have become mainstream. I’m a registered dietitian and have spoken with several brand managers to learn more about the latest and hottest trends in the world of plant-based foods and beverages for 2022.

1. Seafood without fish

Once an underserved sector, vegan alternatives to fish are set to be one of the biggest plant-based trends in 2022.

One thing my time at Expo West showed me is that it’s not enough for a product to be plant-based; it has to be good for you and good for the environment.

When the plant-based food industry first took off, people were excited to get their hands on new, authentic-tasting products. Today, consumers are setting the bar higher when it comes to ingredient quality and sourcing.

As a result, brands are increasingly aware of the quality of ingredients, nutritional value and environmental footprint of their products, with plant-based trends in 2022 moving towards healthier and more natural products.
